Sinhalese aṣani

In the Sinhala English Dictionary, Clough asserts that the Sinhalese word aṣani refers to “Indra’s thunderbolt.” It is an offshoot of Tamil akku through the transformation of akku > aṡ > aṡáni > aṣani. The following words, related to Sinhalese aṣani, also originate from Tamil akku.

asanipáta, “thunderbolt.” sena, “thunderbolt or the electrical fluid; reclining, repose, falling, dropping, descending.” senahaṉḍa, “thunder.” henaguliya, “thunderbolt.”
